When Katherine “Kate” Ferguson’s daughter Niviah was accepted into an intensive pediatric program at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, she didn’t know that the Ronald McDonald House was an option. Mary Free Bed was the only multi-disciplinary program that could take Niviah right away. Before finding the RMHWM, Kate thought she would have to sleep in her car. Having a place to call home during this time was truly a lifesaver!

Kate described her stay with the House as beyond amazing. “This journey with my girl has been a long, rough and hard road and you guys did everything you could to make it that much easier,” said Kate. Having an inviting and comfortable place to call home made a big difference. The soft warm bed, tasty dinners, snacks, and cooking essentials were unexpected and appreciated. “You take some of the load off of our shoulders as parents,” stated Kate. “Words cannot express our gratitude.”

While in town, Kate and Niviah also had the once in a lifetime experience to not only see Hamilton, but a chance to meet and get autographs from some of the cast members! They had great seats and loved the show, with the tickets donated by board member Kevin Patterson and BDO USA.

After staying in the House for 35 days, Kate and Niviah are headed back to Alabama where they plan on volunteering with their local Ronald McDonald House. They are grateful for the aid they received at the RMHWM and plan on passing that support on to families in Alabama.
