The Ronald McDonald House provides care, comfort, and a free place to stay when families need it most. Families who stay at the House have children at Grand Rapids community hospitals receiving inpatient or outpatient medical or mental health treatment.

We work closely with our referral partners to ensure families have a place to stay.

How to Stay With Us

The Ronald McDonald House is a place specifically for families who need to stay close to their pediatric children (ages 0 – 18) actively receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Live at least 30 miles away from the medical facility where the patient is receiving treatment

Be at least 18 years of age or be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian

Pass a background check

PLEASE NOTE: All families who complete the Room Request Form will be automatically added to our room waitlist. Once a request has been submitted, please save the number 616.776.1300 to your contacts. As a room becomes available we are only able to call twice before offering available spaces to the next family on the waitlist.

House FAQs

How does the House determine how long I can stay?

Families are eligible to stay at the House as long as their child is admitted at a local hospital.

Do you have transportation?

Shuttle service is available for families to local hospitals 7 days a week at 9:00 AM, 4:00 PM, and 8:00 PM.

Who can stay?

Ronald McDonald House Charities West Michigan serves families residing more than 30 miles away and whose children, 18 years or younger, are receiving medical and mental health treatment at one of our six partner hospitals. Immediate family members, such as mom, dad, siblings, grandparents, legal guardians, and/or caregivers, are eligible to stay.

How many people can stay in a room?

Most rooms accommodate between 2-3 people with an additional pack-n-play. If you have special circumstances that might require additional guests, please call the office at 616-776-1300 to speak with a RMHCWM Staff Member regarding your specific request.

What is the cost to stay at the RMHCWM?

There is no cost to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. While a small contribution of $25.00 is requested from our guests, no family is turned away due to an inability to give.

How do I request a room?

Families interested in requesting a room must complete our Room Request Form. All families who submit a Room Request Form will automatically be placed on the waitlist for a room. A staff member will only contact families on the waiting list via phone when a room becomes available. RMHCWM staff requests that our waitlisted families add the number 616-776-1300 to their contacts to ensure they are prepared to accept our call regarding an available room. Available rooms are offered to families on a first-come, first-serve basis determined by mileage. RMHCWM is unable to accept reservations.

What will I need to bring with me to check-in at the House?
Please plan to provide a State issued form of identification as part of our check-in process.
What is provided at RMHC West Michigan?
