Ronald McDonald House Charities West Michigan (RMHC West Michigan) proudly acknowledges the invaluable and selfless contributions of its volunteers in providing care and comfort to families in need. Even during the height of the pandemic, the organization received tremendous support from volunteers who prepared meals, decorated snack bags, and maintained its sprawling 5-acre property.

At the 2023 Red Shoe Gala, RMHC West Michigan’s Executive Director, Ellen Carpenter, presented the following awards.

RMHCWM Board President, Mike Dunlap, accepting his award at the Red Shoe Gala.

The Hero of the House award was presented to Mike Dunlap, the outgoing board president, who led the organization with compassion and expertise. His own family’s experience with the Ronald McDonald House after his son’s surgery inspired him to devote countless hours to help the charity navigate through unprecedented times amidst COVID-19 and an expansion.

Target volunteers accepting their award at the Red Shoe Gala.

The Volunteer of the Year award was given to Target, a company that never hesitated to step up to the plate whenever there was a cancellation in the volunteer calendar. Target’s teams showed up at countless events and helped with not just the fun parts, but also the set-up and tear-down. If there is ever a need, Target is a group we can count on.

Ready for Life volunteers accepting their award at the Red Shoe Gala.

Finally, the Heart of the Home award was presented to Ready for Life, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving adults with disabilities in the community. Ready for Life regularly volunteered as meal makers and treat bakers for the House, and are known for making the best cookies.

RMHC West Michigan extends its heartfelt gratitude to all its volunteers for their kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. Without them, it would not be possible to provide the care and comfort that families deserve.
