Keeping Us Together – The Klastow Family

Like many second time moms, Lindsey Klastow didn’t expect an emergency C-section at 31 weeks into her pregnancy due to preeclampsia. Not only was she facing recovery from the unplanned surgery but also a long commute between her home in Ludington, MI and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital where baby Emmitt (born at 1lb. 9oz.) was growing stronger. “I wanted to spend as much time as possible at the hospital with Emmitt. And I wanted to spend time with my daughter Madisyn too. Staying at the Ronald McDonald House let me do both,” says Lindsey.

The Klastow family stayed at the RMHWM for 50 nights, until Emmitt was discharged to go home weighing 4 lbs. While they were at the House, their favorite things were the hot meals waiting after the end of a long day in the NICU and how homey and comfortable the House was. They were so appreciative of the support they received from the volunteers and other families. “Everyone made us feel so cared for, and they shared our happiness when we could take Emmitt home”. Lindsey reports that Emmitt now weighs over 7 lbs. and is progressing well. Congratulations, Klastow family!
